The textile that has stolen millions of hearts around the world originates in a small town at the very heart of the country. The town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh is known for its historical importance as well as the world famous hand woven Chanderi sarees. Fine cotton silk blends from Chanderi had long been patronized by Mughals and Rajputs. The fabric is woven with warp (tana), stretched out set of threads, through which the weft (bana) is passed through in regular motion.

Chanderi is a traditional ethnic fabric characterized by its lightweight, sheer texture and fine luxurious feel. Chanderi fabric is produced by weaving in silk and golden Zari in the traditional cotton yarn that results in the creation of the shimmering texture. What sets apart these chanderi fabric sarees are the fact that the motifs are still woven in hand thus lending it a completely different level of sophistication to the fabric. Chanderi fabric needs special care due to its thin, soft texture, it is advisable to dry clean or mild soap washing the fabric or drying in dark places avoiding direct sunlight.
